Meme: Stores of Yesteryear

Thomas said that I should create a meme for folks to talk about stores that they remember from their past that don't exist anymore, so I'll take him up on that suggestion.

If you have a blog, write your own post and create a link to it by leaving a comment below. If you don't have a blog, just leave your memories in the comments below.

  • What stores do you remember from the past that aren't around any more?
  • Where were they located? (I know some of you moved around a lot.)
  • What did the store sell?
  • Do you have any special memories associated with those stores?

We'll make August 20 the deadline! I will try to do a summary of posts on or about August 21 with links to all the posts! I'll post my follow up to this post as well as the Shainberg's and Kent's post that got it all started in the roundup.

Also - did you want me to create an Event entry in the Genea-Bloggers calendar on Facebook?

That would be a great idea!

Lori - I also participated in this meme. It was fun & I got to revist (via the web) lots of stores of my childhood! Here's my post:

Thanks, Randy. There is a "Pig" in Amory, Mississippi today. (Of course, it's in the old A & P store that later was an IGA before it became a Piggly Wiggly.)

It looks like this was pretty successful! I'm glad you posted the meme - it was fun to not only write but to read the posts of others. I long for the days when department stores had a regional flavor and were not all the same as if produced by a template or cookie cutter!
